This session will discuss covert tactics used in pharmaceutical marketing, including drug rep visits, sampling, data mining, CME, and the use of physician influencers. Disease-mongering, or the creation of diseases by industry, will also be discussed. Recommendations for combating industry influence on patient care will be made.

Participants are expected to watch the video, reflect on its content, and complete the CEU self-assessment and CEU evaluation. Only upon completing this process will a participant's continuing education certificate be generated. The estimated time a learner will need to complete this self-study activity is 60 minutes. 

This activity is approved for continuing education for physicians, nurses, and dietitians.

  • List three techniques used in pharmaceutical marketing.
  • Identify two diseases or conditions that were created by industry. 
  • Identify two different strategies for limiting commercial influence on prescribing habits.

Requirements for successful completion: Participants will be awarded contact hours commensurate with participation after completion of the post-test with a score of 70% or higher.
